ScienceX returns to intu Trafford Centre
ScienceX returned to intu Trafford Centre on 9-10 March for the fourth year running. Taking over the Orient in the Centre, this year’s event was, by far, the biggest and the best yet.
This free weekend-long festival is the flagship off-campus public engagement event for the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University. It aims to showcase what science and engineering is really all about and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, in particular those who are part of traditionally hard-to-reach groups who may have never considered a future in these areas.
At this year’s event, 180 volunteers had over 25,000 interactions with visitors through a programme of fun, hands-on science activities. Up by 7,000 on the engagement figures from last year, these numbers demonstrate the growing success and popularity of ScienceX and reflect the hard work of all our inspiring volunteers who delivered some amazing activities – there was everything from dancing robots and meteorites to dinosaurs and slime.
Many visitors travelled to intu Trafford Centre for ScienceX to give their children the opportunity to learn about science and engineering in an interctive and exciting way. After attending with her family, one mother said “We had an absolutely amazing day. We learnt so much and our children really enjoyed chatting to all the experts.”
Feedback from visitors and from the team at intu Trafford Centre has been overwhelmingly positive and so ScienceX will be taking over this popular venue again in 2020 – watch this space!
